SCARS™ was established as a 'Brand' in 2020, but I assure you the 'Story' began writing itself long before we ever knew it was. We create our garments by devoting attention to each detail - sourcing quality materials, having purposeful designs and creating a meaningful brand that acknowledges point-of-view, conflict, and resolution of everyone's story.

Since 2009 our founder, Taiwan Locke has been a walking testimony and the human “Billboard” for this brand - long before it was even an idea.

Think back to a time in your life when you thought your plan was going to go exactly how you had it mapped out. Now think about the feeling you had when that entire plan fell apart. Now tell me how you'd feel if you failed at it almost two dozen times. Yes, that is exactly how my life was going for three and a half years.

I was suffering from a non-healing head wound that required surgery - and surgery being singular, that is what we expected. But we couldn't have been more wrong. They say God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers and I, like you, can attest to that because for me, 1 surgery turned into 2 - then to 6, - then to 22. Yes, you read that correctly - I underwent 22 total surgeries with 14 of them being skin grafts.

This was the darkest time of my entire life. On the days when my physical pain was low externally, internally I was struggling with loneliness, depression, financial uncertainty, and spiritual apatheism, just to name a few. I couldn't believe I was going through it.

Later, once I began to "Understand the assignment" that was given to me, I never looked back from walking in my purpose. I understood how my life was going to change for the better and how the SCARS would symbolize anew.

That is where SCARS™ BRAND was born. Our physical pain is the first to come, the first to go away, and the first we'd ever forget. It's the SCARS we seldom explore and the ones we cannot see that are the ones that impact our lives the most. Those are the SCARS we should put on full display, the ones we should discuss, the ones we should wear. For the trauma of one, can leave SCARS for us all.

My mission is to inspire and to invoke thought & conversation. To remind everyone that after the trauma is the time for healing - time for rebuilding - time for SCARS to form. They won't look magical or pretty. Real healing is hard, exhausting and draining but you must let yourself go through ALL of it. You don’t have to paint it as anything other than what it is. Life has taught me I am not always in control. Life is full of experiences, lessons, heartbreak and pain. But, it has also shown me love, beauty, possibility & new beginnings and I embrace it all. It makes us who we are and these SCARS tell a story; What’s Yours?
